Most of Boreas is FREE. Features that need a subscription are marked PRO / PRO+; anything not built yet is marked PLANNED — nothing is oversold.
Offline nautical map
The Marmara chart ships with the app — no download, no internet. Depths, contours, soundings, lighthouses and navigation marks stay with you offshore.
Position · speed · course
Live position, speed (knots) and heading via GPS. It tells you when the signal is weak, and hides heading while you're stopped — because heading isn't reliable at a standstill.
Route planning & hazards
A suggested route that avoids land and shallows; drag the waypoints to edit it. Rocks, shallows and wrecks along your route are flagged in advance — thousands of hazard points derived from open-source bathymetry and wreck records. Requires the captain's verification.
Safety alarms
The shallow-water alarm works from your own draft. Anchor watch catches dragging; MOB marks the spot with a single tap.
Maritime boundary alerts
Warns you as you approach territorial waters. Internal waters, territorial waters and international waters are shown separately on the map — never cross a boundary unaware.
Weather & sea state
Wind, gusts, hourly forecast, waves, currents and sea level — powered by Open-Meteo data. It's a forecast, not a certainty. The latest data is stored offline and clearly marked when it goes stale.
Pre-departure check
One screen of judgment before you cast off: route, wind and changing weather. The forecast is taken from your route's departure point, not your last position. The wave & sea state line is part of Pro.
Night mode
A red-light scheme protects your night vision. Turn it on manually, or let it switch on by itself at sunset.
Boat profile
Draft, cruising speed, fuel capacity and consumption — stored on your device. It calculates your range and tunes the shallow-water alarm to your boat.
Fleet — live position & messages
Share your position with the fleet if you choose, see nearby boats, wave hello, and message mutually accepted connections. Switch it off or block anyone, anytime.
Community notes + reporting
Leave a note on a cove: anchoring, shallow water, rocks, marina, fuel, fishing spot. Notes are marked as unverified user reports; flag inappropriate content with a single tap.
Voyage history
Every voyage is recorded automatically. Replay past trips on the map, see duration and distance, and share your voyage card.
3D harbor approach
Within 6 km of a harbor, its pre-built 3D approach card appears — see where you'll enter before you get there.
AIS vessel traffic
Live vessels around you (online, optional layer). For information only — not for collision avoidance.
Offline region packs
Aegean, Gökova-Bodrum, Mediterranean (West & East), Black Sea (West & East) and Cyprus. Download the region you're heading to and use it offshore without internet. Marmara is already free.
Sea state in the departure check
Adds a wave height and sea state line to the pre-departure verdict — see the sea itself, not just the wind.
3D coastal view
See the coast from the sea: real terrain elevation (mountains rise) + up-to-date satellite imagery, with a live viewpoint on your device. Two cameras: deck and bird's-eye. Terrain awareness for docking and cove entries.
Verified community layer
Community observations verified over time — in a separate Boreas layer, never mixed into the base chart data.
Photos
Cove and marina photos — after moderation and explicit consent, in the community layer.
Community knowledge, kept apart from official data
Boreas keeps community observations separate from the open-source base chart data. User notes are never mixed into the OpenSeaMap/OSM-derived base chart. Observations whose accuracy is confirmed over time move to a separate "Verified Community Layer" — still an awareness source, not an official one.
